Character of the manager and dear friend Fiona were particularly memorable and brought warmth, humor, and depth to the story. The video clips between scenes were hilarious and added another layer of richness to the experience.
What I didn't like
The show was wonderfully funny, and one element I would have enjoyed seeing more of was a visual timeline of her journey through photographs. Her story suggested a transformation not only in perspective but also in identity—from an innocent newcomer, to someone adapting to a foreign culture, and eventually to someone embracing her true self. A glimpse of that evolution through photos could made the journey feel more personal and powerful.
My overall impression
Kimchi Life was uniquely funny, witty, and offered a fascinating glimpse into navigating life in Korea. While celebrating the country’s culture and uniqueness, it also thoughtfully explored the challenges of building a life and identity in an unfamiliar country with new language and cultural barriers all with comedic story telling. I thoroughly enjoyed the character work; it kept me engaged throughout the entire hour, which is especially impressive for a one-person performance. Overall, it was exceptionally well-crafted, skillfully directed, and brilliantly performed.
