What I liked

Slight spoilers, but after Reed shared a story where he was on a date with a beautiful woman, he paused and said “huh ‘beautiful woman’ kinda redundant” and the whole crowd boo’ed him. A genuinely hilarious bit. He also pulled off some really great character work in his impressions of the other teachers he’s worked with. There were some pretty risky jokes in here too that he pulled off with ease! Excellent crowd work as well, especially in the opening minutes.

What I didn't like

I enjoyed the framing device of going back and forth between substitute teaching stories and the story about the car on the highway, but I felt that some of the transitions could be smoother. The pacing of said beats was solid, but the segues between them could be a little abrupt.

My overall impression

This was a fantastic show fusing together elements of standup with more emotional stories from his personal life. Reed brings a great deal of vulnerability to his performance that I didn’t expect from a one-man comedy show, but there are also extended periods of rolling laughter throughout with no lulls. Terrific pacing the whole way through, and I’d love to recommend this show to friends in other cities should it ever tour!
