I thought the acting was impeccable. I also liked how the story moved from one stage (an one timeframe) to the other. That was very effective. I also appreciated the translations that were displayed up on the screen. That kept me enaged.
What I didn't like
I think some of the relationships could be a little clearer. For example, I wasn’t quite sure who the man was who visited Nanami towards the end. I think I knew but I wasn’t sure.
My overall impression
Paper Flowers was a powerful and moving play. And it was so timely. Even though the events took place over 40 years ago and perhaps the targets of the prejudice might be different, the essence of the story absolutely applies to today. The story really moved me – I found I had tears in my eyes at the end.
