Miley Yamamoto as Nanami Nishiyama and Miya Kodama as Keiko Nishiyama are stunning mirrors as a younger and mature version of the same character. Their physical performances make the play such a surprising portrayal of generational trauma and connection I hadn’t seen before. Very original and thoughtful.
What I didn't like
I was surprised by the split stage – quite fun and exciting as a viewer but I didn’t realize how much context was being provided by the projected images. I should have paid closer attention!
My overall impression
An incredible piece of writing with a cast that delivers a thoughtful and nuanced performance. I wept during a monologue and got choked up seeing characters navigate injustice and personal relationships with layers of complexity.
