The actors are fantastic, and the staging is perfect for the story! They could not have picked a better venue for this kind of play. The characters are complex and struggling with very relatable conflicts in nuanced ways.
What I didn't like
I only wish the subtitles were shorter/easier to skim and closer to the action so I could watch the humans more. But for the space they have, it works for now. Audience, look to the screen for subtitles when the actor speaks Japanese.
My overall impression
Wow wow wow! This play is an incredibly moving piece and the message of hope we are so desperately seeking right now. A wonderful reminder of racial intersectionality that is relevant and much-needed. Very personal to the writer/director and beautifully done with care. You will be so glad you saw this!
