A HUGE song catalog covering DECADES of her singing career—-including a host of movie title-songs that contributed nothing then and are expendable now. Ms ROBIN (the perfect name for someone impersonating Doris Day, nez pas?) puts her own memorable stamp of near-authenticity on the part!
What I didn't like
Like other Fringe musicals, the sound balance = NSG, sometimes burying the voice being showcased under an overpowering keyboard! And A LOT of time and energy gets wasted trotting to/from a distant backstage, when the costume changes could be more efficiently done behind a screen ON-stage! And instead of TEN wigs the show needs only 3 or 4, to denote periods of time, which would speed it up, too!
My overall impression
I’m skeptical of anyone who impersonates a star whose face I know as well as my own, but I’m here to tell you DEBORAHROBIN succeeds splendidly filling the shoes (and a dozen period-accurate costumes) and the persona of Doris Day, a childhood favorite of mine and all the other oldsters who filled her Fringe venue!
Christopher Showerman nicely supports her in “telling” her story while she’s absent, racing through costume/wig changes & is fine singing “her” songs too.
The script is a Publicist’s Fantasy, skipping over the REAL Dark Truths of shaving her age and her very un-perfect sexually-open marriage, preceding bankruptcy.
