The opening scene was damn near perfect. Parodying the morning scene trope was smart, funny, and set the tone of the show.
Having closeted characters talk to God was sweet to watch and done tastefully, too.
The hive mind voice was such a clever idea!
Jeff’s spoken word scene was an unexpected crowd pleaser.
Overall, the cast did a fantastic job.
What I didn't like
The show has many fun ideas bouncing around, but a talented editor could take this show to the next level by fleshing out some ideas and culling others.
The script overall was excessively on the nose. Instead of adding another punchline, a bit subtle satire could enhance the show. I assure you, it will not go over the audience’s heads.
I thought that Sparky the dog was an arbitrary plot device. Maybe I am missing an inside joke? Nevertheless, it added a bit of shock value but did not have a strong payoff in the story.
The tinfoil hats were funny, but they didn’t lead anywhere other than falling off of people’s heads.
Lastly, an observation: the entire cast was white (or white passing). I hope people from all backgrounds are being included in the production process.
My overall impression
Irreverent, laugh-out-loud play with an attention-grabbing premise
