The greatest strength of this solid production is it’s actors: Trevor J. Davis, Teresa Valenza, Christopher T. Wood, Alex Rinaldi, Allie Sahargun and Vasquez (someone cast him as Iago in good production of OTHELLO, please!).
What I didn't like
Squeezing a play into the time restrictions of the Fringe can be difficult, but I would’ve liked to see the comedy group perform two or three of their skits. It would have given extra depth to the production, especially during the troupe’s heated discussions over which style of comedy they should pursue.
My overall impression
A congenial sketch comedy group headed to an important, out-of-state competition has pulled in a new member to replace one recently departed. Did they unknowingly bring a serpent into their own small garden? Or is it each member’s personal problems that really begins to crack their comradely façade? JOKE HOLD’s talented ensemble deftly portrays the group’s growing uneasiness and, simultaneously, their inability to put their finger on the problem of what seems to be tripping them up. Is newest member Griffin (a layered performance by Armand Vasquez) just asking questions that need to be asked, or does he have more nefarious agenda? Cool work by cool folks with some laughs, too.
