What I liked

The best thing a comedy can do is make you cry. Without spoiling too much, this show is funniest thing I have seen at fringe, and I think it needed to be in order to blindside me as much as it did. The comedy was hilarious of course, but it wasn’t careless. The humor was well written, directed, delivered, and extremely well received; and thus, my stomach was too sore from laughing to brace for the gut punches that this show’s dramatic beats delivered. And boy did they deliver. In addition, costumes were well thought out and effective, and the language blend between old English and modern speak was very well balanced.

What I didn't like

I would’ve liked to see more of the rats, though that may be just because I found them particularly funny. That being said, I think it speaks volumes to the show’s quality that this was the one note I could think of.

My overall impression

Jester is a damn good laugh, and somehow yet an even better cry. Its constant side-aching hilarities were spoonfuls of sugar to help the medicine of life’s ephemeral nature go down. It reminds you that true laughter is precious because of life’s hardships, rather than being precious in spite of them.
