What I liked the most, especially as an ex Catholic, was the earnestness, enthusiasm, and humanity that indy brought to sister Bernadette. It’s very easy to one dimensionalize religious people, or have them be the butt of the joke, but Indy makes us root for sister Bernadette, makes us be on the same team, and shows us that we’re all a lot more similar than we think. She does this all while not letting the show become a Drama and including really funny and engaging audience participation, which kept me engaged and excited to see what was coming next. The show was an incredible feat, and I left feeling more inspired and tickled than I did coming in.
What I didn't like
I would love to see more of sister Bernadette, in whatever capacity that is. Considering the killer finale, I would love to see a sister Bernadette musical. I think this character lends itself to so much and I’m just excited to see you explore more.
My overall impression
Indy is a powerhouse ! I’ve seen a sister Bernadette set before so I knew it was going to be funny and silly and witty, and all the good things. But, what I didn’t expect is to be brought to tears by the end of the piece and to feel a huge catharsis and release by the end of it. Indy mixes humor with the realities and disappointments of coming into yourself as an adult, as a woman, as a nun, and makes something entirely new that reminds us how lucky we are to be in good company and in good faith.
