What I liked
Kevin is a super sharp gag writer and performer – this show reminded me of Peter Sellers in the Pink Panther movies – and he’s great at finding well-calibrated leaps from reality.
Get Ready with Me engaged with and used the audience to great effect, with him playing with and building off what the audience gave him, especially if it was chaotic. One of my favorite parts of the show I saw had him mirroring an audience member giving him a very aggressive energy. His attention to and care of the audience was lovely.
What I didn't like
Both shows are already great at being what they want to be – and they’ll get better with every run.
My overall impression
A well paired double header, both clowns had the audience locked in and paying rapt attention. Kevin August Shuts the F#ck up saw Kevin laying waste to an Airbnb painted completely in the minds of the audience. Get Ready with Me is a sweet and silly ride about a man battling his own sense of inadequacy with clown logic and some help from the audience.
