I’ve always been fond of a surreal narrative structure. Some stories are too easily told as: A leads to B leads to C. This felt more like A leads to B leads to Q leads to Purple but only on Saturdays.
The direction was excellent and there were some top-notch performances in here as well. Eric Schinzer gives a star-making turn as the titular Burt Thunders and director Evan Spreen steals the show as the rancid, senile agent Rich.
What I didn't like
This felt like it had five different endings and couldn’t decide which one it wanted to land on. As a result, it does feel maybe five minutes too long.
My overall impression
Like a mixture of “Late Night With the Devil” (without the bullshit AI), an episode of “Community” and the “Adult Swim Infomercials,” “Save the Whales” is a chaotic delight to be cherished.
