My first experience with the Hollywood Fringe Festival, and I went in knowing very little about Elegies or William Finn. I was invited by a friend, and I’m really glad I said yes.
The show was intimate, moving, and beautifully performed. Kendre Scott was a standout—an incredible voice and such a captivating stage presence. The entire cast was talented, and the sopranos were especially impressive. Their harmonies were gorgeous.
What I appreciated most was how the show balanced loss with humor, love, and celebration. It never felt overly sentimental; it felt honest and deeply human.
A wonderful introduction to both William Finn’s work and the Hollywood Fringe Festival. ...

That's no small thing. This is a skillfully staged, gorgeously sung, and affectingly performed piece, and it should be seen stat. ...

Beautifully sung, every singer was professional through and through. Personal favorites were Richard Rosales, who has a poised yet delicate presence with a lovely baritone (I think that's his range but don't quote me!); a yearning sincerity from Ella Raziel, and Christopher Fishburne's deeply felt, emotional characterizations....

An absolutely beautiful theater experience. A dozenish extremely talented singers cycle through a collection of very personal songs by William Finn. Personal to him, but through the details of these affectionate portraits--of unnamed and named theater friends, 9/11 victims, pets, his mother, and others, Elegies also sparks deep memories and emotions tied to our own past....
