The singing abilities of these artists is out of this world! Their chemistry and performances in each vignette was delightful to watch. I also liked the keyboard accompanist, and loved the central staging of the keyboard.
This show prompted a slightly unexpected crying fit from me. There’s a song about Finn driving his grandmother around Natick, Massachusetts for the last time. Natick was a town over from my hometown, and the last time I went back to Massachusetts was in April for my Yiayia’s (grandmother’s) funeral. I’ve grieved her, and I’ve grieved the loss of feeling a sense of home or belonging in Massachusetts, but never had the proper cry I needed for that. My Yiayia was a singer and a pianist, and it feels so right that this is the moment that reached into my heart and allowed me to process these feelings. I started bawling at that section and didn’t stop for the rest of the show, going on for a while after. I was crying so hard that it was difficult to explain to my friend why I was crying. Thank you so much to the team of Elegies.
What I didn't like
Nothing of note. This was quite different for a Fringe show, and a little longer than most shows. But the artistry was incredible, so I didn’t mind.
My overall impression
A beautiful cycle of songs surrounding death and grieving, sung by incredible and beautiful voices.
