Director Hasmik Sargsyan achieved an overall stylistic harmony in “The Pearl,” with the various elements working together to support a quick-witted, surreal comedy set in the roaring 1920’s. In “The Trick,” director Alexandria Sanders cut to the heart of a provocative story in which five very different people must navigate the murky moral landscape of a harrowing situation.
What I didn't like
Due in part to the acoustics of the space, some of the dialogue could have been more audible.
My overall impression
Joe Praml’s “The Trick” and “The Pearl” have been brought back to the stage this summer at the Hollywood Fringe Festival. Bravo to the directors, cast, and crew for helping Joe Praml’s surviving spouse, Linnea, breathe new life into her husband’s outstanding short plays.
