The scripts had extremely smart and tight dialogue that each cast embodied with ease. The characters were so three dimensional and real, which was beautifully supported by the way the actors spoke and moved (absently lighting cigarettes like old pros) and the attention to detail on the costumes (specifically the 1920’s era in the “The Pearl”). The production design and props for each era really enhanced each story. I love seeing this level of production at Fringe: brava to Linnea Praml and the rest of the team!

My overall impression
A fantastic double bill exploring two totally different group dynamics, but with equal depth and detail. “The Pearl” explores a dysfunctional family at a sprawling family estate in the 1920’s, and “The Trick” explores a dysfunctional duo at a bar in the 1990’s. Each slice of life was extremely engaging, and really believable. Each play had their own director (Hasmik Sargsyan “The Pearl”, Alexandria Sanders “The Trick”) and it was incredible to see how seamlessly they complemented each other bringing such different stories to life.
