A fantastic double bill exploring two totally different group dynamics, but with equal depth and detail. "The Pearl" explores a dysfunctional family at a sprawling family estate in the 1920's, and "The Trick" explores a dysfunctional duo at a bar in the 1990's. Each slice of life was extremely engaging, and really believable. Each play had their own director (Hasmik Sargsyan "The Pearl", Alexandria Sanders "The Trick") and it was incredible to see how seamlessly they complemented each other bringing such different stories to life. ...

Joe Praml's "The Trick" and "The Pearl" have been brought back to the stage this summer at the Hollywood Fringe Festival. Director Hasmik Sargsyan achieved an overall stylistic harmony in "The Pearl," with the various elements working together to support a quick-witted, surreal comedy set in the roaring 1920's. In "The Trick," director Alexandria Sanders cut to the heart of a provocative story in which five very different people must navigate the murky moral landscape of a harrowing situation. I came out to support Mare and really enjoyed this play! I think the costuming was great and really elevated the performance. The actors in The Pearl have a real flair and are hilarious! The actors in The Trick felt really grounded and the emotional beats were powerful. ...
