What Reina found in telling this deeply personal story is something extraordinary. A show that is not only about one of the most difficult times in her life, but also one of great love and friendship. It certainly has the makings of a trauma dump show, but at every turn where an audience might expect sadness to consume a moment, another well-timed joke comes. The levity in Reina’s writing and performance blew me away! And don’t get me wrong. This show will tug at your heartstrings. But it never asks the audience to take care of the person on stage, instead she is holding your hand every step of the way, and whispering something hilarious in your ear the moment a tear falls from your eye.
What I didn't like
Nada.
My overall impression
One week later, I cannot stop thinking about how sharp and funny the writing was for this piece. If you saw this earlier in the run, I know I’d heard it ran long. What I saw for this final performance was something hilarious, lean, and paced extraordinarily well. An absolute pleasure to watch.
