The staging and pace and theatricality – just the right amount of production value. All the performers were dynamite! Kate was a revelation in the role of Pippa and the small ensemble of supporting players each had moments to absolutely SHINE. Smart, loose writing with improvisational elements that allow the players to constantly explore what’s happening in the moment. It allows the audience to share in the discovery of the piece along with the performers.
What I didn't like
I wouldn’t want it to “improve.” The exploration in real time is the magic!
My overall impression
This is the kind of play a precocious 11-year-old girl with the brain of a brilliant Millennial might create. It’s raw and immediate; silly and improvisational and sometimes the seams show which makes it so unique and compelling to watch. It’s a playground for smart, versatile performers to explore the limits of their broad skillsets and theatre traditions (including paper bag skit costuming and musical theatre choreography). It’s so free, imaginative and un-self-conscious, but still packs a punch with its satire.
