The humanity of it all. By the end, I found myself laughing, tearing up and reflecting on themes of identity, addiction, shame, resilience, and grace.
What I didn't like
Perhaps a couple of set pieces projected on the wall. Would have loved to have seen the revolutionary war painting.
My overall impression
Miss Magnolia is masterful piece of theater that manages to be hilarious, heartbreaking and deeply human all at once. The writing is sharp, funny, and surprisingly profound. The play moves effortlessly between comedy and vulnerability, finding humor and unexpected places while never losing sight of the pain beneath the laughter. Miss Magnolia herself is a brilliant creation: charming, witty, stubborn, and ultimately, compassionate. Bravo, Mr. Hutcheson.
