I loved the direction and acting. The staging of this show and the immersive elements played so well together, allowing audiences to feel comfortably engaged in both yoga and the story being told. Making a one-person show flow seamlessly and without lagging is a challenge that this show easily solves with witty writing and direction. The lead performance by Ruby was captivating- hilarious, frightening, and the perfect balance of unhinged behavior. Watching her character descend into madness over the course of the show is a delectable, devious treat.
What I didn't like
Script-wise, touching more clearly on how the yoga- a practice meant to be about mindfulness and inner peace- directly interferes with, or exacerbates, Marie’s psyche might be a boost to an already great show. The yoga class is a hilarious framing device that the show utilizes very well, but emotionally I would’ve liked to feel a bit more connection between the yoga and between Marie’s view of herself and her class.
My overall impression
Hilarious! This is a unique dark comedy with a memorable ending, expert direction, and a mesmerizing lead performance. I literally laughed out loud multiple times, and I’ll remember the chilling final image of this play for a long time.
