My overall impression

HOT YOGA leaves you breathless in a completely different way. Written by and starring Ruby Marker, this one-woman show is a masterclass in leaning into the dark to find the most hilarious absurdity.

The piece is a sharp, autobiographical journey through a young girl’s burning desire to act and write in a town dominated by “cowboys, bros, and jocks,” where the only entertainment seems to be speeding around the roundabout until you get dizzy. It transforms a claustrophobic setting into a perfect pressure cooker. The script is lean and unafraid to stare into the void while cracking jokes with sniper precision.

Ruby Marker navigates her heavy, memoir-like narrative with a hypnotic comedic rhythm, beautifully acting out raw danger while the direction elevates every beat. The sound design surprises with brilliant effects, leading to an ending that twists in a shocking, perfectly earned direction.

HOT YOGA is a testament to the power of telling your own truth—even if that truth involves cowboys, bros, jocks, and roundabouts. Do not miss this brave, original voice. Grab your tickets before they sell out; this is the talk of the festival.
