Hot Yoga — skillfully written and wonderfully performed by Ruby Marker — is, as LA Magazine says, “not to be missed.” Marker uses comedy as a tool to tell a story about growing up in a small town, the performative “community” she encountered, the trauma she endured, and the unorthodox, deeply disturbing way she confronts those hurts when she faces her greatest disappointment yet. The writing is brilliant, bright, fast-paced and engaging — and all of it delivered while teaching a yoga class. The play moves effortlessly from the stereotypical yoga teacher, all sweet and insincere, into a dark and disturbing send-off for Marie’s last class.
