It was such a fun show! Ruby Marker played a really fun character in a funny scenario of her last yoga class. Her character was both relatable and pathetic, which I found highly amusing. I have had the pleasure of seeing Hot Yoga twice now: once as an audience member and once as a class participant. Both experiences were extraordinary. HOT YOGA is both a personal examination of self and society & a hilarious, heightened character piece. At its core, it is a cathartic, meditative exercise (literally) that forces the audience to confront what it means to perceive and be perceived. I laughed, I stretched, I grew a pit in my stomach that moved up to my throat, and then I laughed again. An amazing execution of a clever and extremely original immersive concept!! Ruby manages to inject genuine introspection and emotion into a deeply satirical character and “type of guy” we all know. A WILD RIDE. Totally genre-defying. Inventive use of the audience. A solo show (???) but so much more than that? I’ve never seen a “partially immersive” show be so effective. This is the kind of show that makes me love theatre, and fringe specifically! Ruby’s performance was hilarious as much as it was painstakingly vulnerable and so personally relatable that sometimes I felt like I was slapped in the face by my younger self. This is a show that Phoebe Waller Bridge herself would stand up and applaud and choose to make the new fleabag. Wonderful work!... full review
