What I liked
The cast’s comedic timing is astounding. This seems like a script that lives or dies on finding the right rhythm and pacing, and this production definitely succeeds. I adored the more overt theatrical elements such as the puppet show flashbacks and the appearance of the sea creatures. How else does one do fantasy on stage?
What I didn't like
At the time of writing this review, the run time listed on the Fringe page says 1 hour. The actual run time is somewhere between 1 hour, 15 minutes and 1 hour, 20 minutes. Hopefully it can be adjusted to more accurately reflect the length of the play, since audience members frequently stack shows back to back.
My overall impression
If you are comfortable with the subject matter (sexual assault by sea creatures is a major plot point), then you should definitely check out The Fisherman’s Wife. The script is tight, absurd, and wildly funny. And the entire cast knocks it out of the park.
