What I liked

I adored the well-paced story, compelling staging, and smooth transitions (no pun intended). One of my favorite visuals was near the end of the play, when held swaddled blankets like a baby before they unraveled into a surgical gown, dissipating his dreams into reality. Honest writing and embodied performances to match.

What I didn't like

Upon reflecting, I wanted to point out one transition later in the show, when Al’s brother exits and Ellis enters, passing each other quickly. I was curious to learn more of how each character would react to seeing each other in Al’s space.

My overall impression

Vivid storytelling, impeccable comedic timing, and lovable characters. Urgent Care captures uniquely human experiences of defining relationships, family, and identity. With realistic trans representation and lighthearted suspension of disbelief, Urgent Care encourages trust and forgiveness.
