The actors were phenomenal. No bullshit. Really good work. And I loved the scenic design. Simple enough for Fringe but so full of meaning. The cage center stage standing in for every metaphor. We are all in that cage with the dogs. And we are all in that cage as humans, fighting a system designed to separate us from our hearts. This show has heart, and it will warm and break yours a few times to remind you that you have one, too.
What I didn't like
I shouldn’t have worn any eye makeup that day, cuz I cried it all off.
My overall impression
This was a highlight of my Fringe experience this year. Deftly written, with characters so grounded and real despite two of them being dogs portrayed by actors, this play really surprised me with its comedic edge and dramatic gravitas. I was riveted from beginning to end. This is what it looks like when talented artists take up a real-world cause and make something relevant, impactful and creatively gorgeous.
