While it parodies some very funny elements of scammy agro guru bootcamps, it is itself truly original. It combines so many different types of performance – it’s sketch but dips into improv and is comedy but dips into drama. It has singing and dancing and solo stage combat. Really wild and fun and Eleos, while intense, never makes the audience feel uncomfortable. In fact, by the end, I personally felt like I was friends with him…
What I didn't like
I really don’t have notes. For a one-(alpha)man show, it blew any expectations I had away.
My overall impression
Emotional Alpha takes a soft look at hard boys.
The show takes the cultural movement of hyper-masculinity and the aggressive approach used to push its message to other men, and bends it into a wild, emotional rollercoaster meant to instead teach male students in attendance vulnerability – in an agro way. Yet, in the end, the master possibly learns the most.
