About the Project
What happens when you take a career-minded Latina, who’s used to living independently, and a puppy who appears to be the spawn of the devil? You get a war of wills, a matter of life and the death of having a life, an epic battle between an HBIC and a contender determined to be top dog. Welcome to Man v. Beast. Human v. animal. Shoes v. a creature of such destructive force that no chancla is safe. Explore whether The Mom Curse applies to pets (“I hope you have a child who is exactly like you.”). Can animals be possessed by a demonic version of your inner child? Does PetSmart or Petco perform exorcisms, and can you use a coupon? Witness a woman who adopts a dog (and then her sister) to test her suitability for motherhood, soon discovers she may not be capable of being a nurturing caregiver, and must decide between keeping them and turning into her mother, or reclaiming her burden-free lifestyle. Where she once believed she was getting revenge on her mother by refusing to bear children, she learns that her negative opinion about her mother/how she views her mother’s shortcomings is how she feels about herself when she’s not at her best, which causes her to express compassion for her mother and fuels her drive to become a great mom. A multi-media experience, The Year of Living Georgieously will tell this tale from several POVs, through re-enactments, video footage, improv, audience participation and song parodies to entertain, engage, and console anyone who had to choose between dog food and a designer bag.
