I really enjoyed Teo’s performance! Their portrayal of such different characters added so much depth to the show. The topic of gender and toxic femininity hit deep. I also loved that Kara and Russ’s plot lines cross each other. I had seen it when it was originally being workshopped and I don’t remember that part from the OG.
What I didn't like
I think mostly it would be tightening up the transitions between Kara & Russ. However, I’m sure that isn’t an easy feat. I would also find it interesting to add a little more info about Russ’s bf. More depth to that character as we only hear his voice near the end. I do like that a lot of him is only known by others perception of him, but maybe just 15% more.
My overall impression
D.A.F.U.Q had me giggling and crying. It was so relatable, yet so personal to their experience. It was a beautiful and playful story about relationships, gender expression and acceptance of oneself. The root of the message for me was that deep connection is possible when you accept who you are and express it fully. Rather than creating a digestible version. No matter what gender you are sometime we chain ourselves to societal expectations! Obsessed with the teddy bear lol (if you don’t know, find out).
