Variety, pacing, technical theater and performance components, never being sure where it’s going while also being satisfied by the different turns it takes, costumes, makeup. It’s super well thought out and a delight, serious and playful moments all supported each other, and non-verbal elicitation moments I found very inspirational, as I felt over and over again through the piece.
What I didn't like
Not very much. Maybe play with different ideas for the ending. I’d love to see it again as it is and bring people to see it.
My overall impression
Shogun is beyond great. Funny and serious, if you think you ever have it figured out you are wrong. Technical and stupid (in the best way), playful, beautiful and sad. In me, and I bet in you, he creates or discovers a desire to see things you didn’t know you needed or craved, and as you think that itch might be left to remain it is delighted in captivating and creative ways. Fun and moving and always engaging all in one
