The physical comedy, costumes, set, and excellent use of the McCadden space were phenomenal! Performances were delightful, particularly Amir Levi’s. The action sends the audience’s eye all over the space, and the actors are very interactive with the audience (without demanding audience participation). The commentary on the commodification of art, ego and hypocrisy of artists, and the poison of absolute power is solid without getting in the way of the comedy. If you like farces (and I do!) it’s definitely worth a watch! Lots of good, genuine laughs!
What I didn't like
I thought the overall writing (gags aside) could have used a punch-up. I wish the set were utilized more. Five is a lot of characters for a 30-minute show, leading to most characters feeling underdeveloped. The tired cliche of the scheming queer servant was disappointing to see. I was hoping for a bit more commentary on that rather than simple depiction, if it’s to be invoked at all in 2026. Levi does good work elevating the script to bring pathos and humor to the character, but ultimately is not supported by the material itself.
