What I liked
Performers were both great. Jade has acting chops for days and physical performance work to boot! And Matt Brooks can give John Early a run for his money. We love an evil stupid white gay.
The COSTUME and the lights for the transformation were so effective!
What I didn't like
Would’ve loved to get to know a bit more about the sensation of being a bug with some personal dialogue, but also felt the show had a natural and satisfying runtime so wouldn’t want to add without cutting… I’m just a nerd for world lore and obtuse dialogue trying to capture impossible experiences in words.
My overall impression
SO GOOD! Like a live action Search Party experience, Morpho sets you up with some terrible people saying horrible, yet hilarious things then takes you on an absurd, body horror filled, transformative journey.
With hilarious performances from both actors and some really beautiful movement work from Jade, Morpho Dance Fitness eases you in with humor then smashes all expectations with some really simple effects as the metamorphosis begins. Once the costume REALLY enters into the equation (iykyk), I fell in love with the piece. Such beautiful fabrication work paired with a stunning bug movement performance from Jade leaves me eagerly waiting to see what this team does next.
