The mixed media flowed together well. Costuming was well done, and the audience participation bit is cute.
What I didn't like
I found recurring jokes to be tired, outdated, and punching down. “Character is gay and promiscuous” shouldn’t really be an entire punchline anymore, nor is simply calling a character fat. And lamp shading a bit as bad advice doesn’t take away the fact that one of the pre-filmed bits was about a girl getting her period now needing to use protection for sex… Friendly reminder that the average age to get your period is 12. Also, “I hate my stupid husband” is the kind of boomer comedy I’d hope we can leave in the past.
My overall impression
Roast Your Chestnuts is a bawdy time, that combines pre-filmed sketches with in-character stand-up. It invokes a “making fun of everyone” style of the raunchy comedy without actually casting a wide net, relying on outdated and tired punchlines.
