Look, y’all…my dad’s from Jersey. I’ve been a Springsteen fan since the womb. I already loved this team for their take on Lord of the Rings. This thing was made for me, and it DELIVERS.
The depth of the parody is detailed and nuanced. I highly recommend listening (or re-listening) to Nebraska to catch all of it. Nebraska’s grown on me as I’ve grown older and begun to treat my own depression, and I really appreciate how Riley Smith and Cole Cuomo are able to poke fun at Springsteen’s most depressing album without mocking the feelings themselves.
They are both skilled musicians and brilliant wordsmiths. Their audience interaction skills are remarkable. Audience members who weren’t familiar with Springsteen loved it as well, but like any good parody it’s a loving parody, and Springsteen fans will adore it. I can even picture the Boss himself chuckling along.
State Trooper is one of my favorite songs on the album, and similarly Mr. Barista is one of my favorites here. (I lived that barista life for a little while, so it struck deep.)
I also loved the one cover they did at the end. A more recent Springsteen song, and one that needs to be repeated again and again until it’s no longer relevant.
What I didn't like
I wish there were earlier shows so more people could experience the brilliance, or more time to allow for more audience banter…but I do love the energy of a midnight show!
