What I liked

The use of projection and personal artifacts to tell the story was so effective! It was like experiencing a documentary live. The writing really captures the gravity and stakes of the fall of Saigon. I teared up a few times overwhelmed at the idea that so many children and families suffered the way that they did, but also hopeful that they were able to escape and build lives for generations to come. It was incredibly moving balanced with humor. Vivi really takes care of her audience as she tells such a deeply personal story.

What I didn't like

Solo shows are hard! Previews are hard! I saw the first performance, so the nerves were definitely there. Just one more rehearsal to shake those off. The show is in EXCELLENT shape! I think it will fit so well as a part of a bigger cultural festival or anthology of shows.

My overall impression

Deeply personal. Thought provoking. Full of Heart. Vivi chronicles her family’s escape during the fall of Saigon and the power of community and kindness that saved not only her family’s lives, but the lives of thousands of others.
