Picture this. You’re driving down a major highway, on your way home to visit family. It’s dark. It’s foggy. You squint your eyes to look when your headlights illuminate a sign that reads “Bledbrooke next two exits.”
A town that you’ve never heard of that’s so small, it only spans the length of two exits. What could possibly be there?
What you wouldn’t know just by looking at it, is that within the blossoming orange groves are two boys who’s love for each other must be masked by indifference for their own safety. You wouldn’t know that a 16 year old girl is manipulated into dating a 30 year old man by her family and the local church, whose secrets may be darker than you could ever imagine.
And you certainly wouldn’t know that the microaggressions two young people of color experience every day are teaching them to hate the color of their own skin.
Suddenly, the name comes back to you.
"Bledbrooke." Isn’t that the town that had that really devestating orchard fire?
Can these six charachters come together to unocver the truth of this terrible tragedy, or will thier own personal biases and prejudices cloud their judgment, leaving the truth buried in the ashes of grove? We are all the heroes of our own story, after all.
You shake your head as you continue driving, all thoughts of that town fading from your memory.
