- Edib’s full commitment to clowning; their presence is what makes the bits work and feel cohesive
- the part behind the screen where Edib (descendant) is stressed about not wanting to go on, and their ancestor talks about honoring their word — both the overall scene and specifically what descendant Edib is working through
- watching the audience respond to being pulled in to interactions
What I didn't like
- extend the run!
My overall impression
Edib is so, so talented! They are able to deftly balance clowning, humor, audience interaction, and the underlying deeper storytelling around grief, intergenerational trauma, diaspora, connection to ancestores, and the role of art in times of extreme oppression and violence. The fact that the piece feels like a hilarious comedy while also touching on such intense themes is really a testament to their skills.
