About the Project
Born to Asian American parents who value obedience and compliance above the exercise of free speech, Freesia is in her forties by the time she goes to her first protest in 2016. “Tall Blades of Grass” takes you through a decade of her attendance at protests. Containing reflections on the intersection between her family’s history and the larger history of the world, concerns over the future of humanity and civilization, and thoughts on the effectiveness of protests in rapidly changing times, the show features colorful protest characters enacting scenes with audience interaction and original protest art.
