The bravura performance by Crismar Chacín-Ruiz, the direction, the sound design, the stark, brutal staging, the surprising musical elements, the framing device of the narrator gave the whole thing an eerie Rod Serling/Twilight Zone feel that was very captivating.
What I didn't like
Perhaps the narrative through-line of the play could have been a little clearer at times, but such is the nature of experimental theater. Even if some moments are a little hard to understand (especially as a non-Spanish speaker), they still evoke great feeling.
My overall impression
A challenging, artistic, experimental yet moving work about important themes. It shines a spotlight on a tragic event in LA history that I knew nothing about. The commentary on violence as an entertainment commodity vs. how it affects people in real life was fascinating.I’ve never seen anything quite like it.
