Yamini’s connection to her audience is deeply delightful. Her interactions with the crowd were especially riotous and effective. The show itself was extremely illuminating. I loved the desperate depiction of the cage of religion. It really stung at the end when Barbie referred to life as a line at the DMV, something no one likes, but you do it to enjoy the afterlife. Brutal and sad and powerful. And SO SO funny!!! I love how clearly Barbie is made up of the women we all know — this is a huge swath of people that genuinely do view the world like Barbie. Chills!
What I didn't like
nothing! the pink. the bob. the water bottle spill… keep it all. i… want to see her again. I want to see her in a feature film!! Go save a town of sinners Barbie!!
My overall impression
This horny religious seminar hit an insane amount of jokes per minute while thoughtfully exploring misogyny, sexuality and shame within the container of christ. Give me more! Barbie Smith is a vulnerable vehicle for godliness and sex. Yamini is incredibly impressive and delivers a truly electric, hysterical performance that leaves you thinking. The directing was exceptional, too. Rami and Yamini are an iconic duo.
