There are some really funny jokes and vignettes here. The interludes featuring trailers for fictional vertical dramas were absolutely hilarious! The story deftly flits between both light and dark humor, even occasionally diving deep down into very disturbing aspects of this industry that seems to be booming in popularity. (At least if my job board searches are any indication.) Funny as the play is, I can’t help but feel sad about the state of film (and breathe a little sigh of relief that AI hasn’t come for theater in the same way). Still, the play ends on a note of hope, and a call to action to reclaim the arts to stand against racism, misogyny, and classism.
What I didn't like
There was a chaotic and hesitant pace/energy between beats that read to me as a symptom of under-rehearsal, though I don’t know if that was the case.
My overall impression
A sharp, satirical takedown of the twisted dark side of vertical microdramas!
