What I liked
The acting here is really incredible, and the story evolves in such an interesting way where we see little pieces and parts of this vertical production before everyone comes together at the end in the final scene. The interstitials of the trailers for other verticals worked so well and built up such a great long-running joke in between the main story.
What I didn't like
I would love to see a full version of this after Fringe!! I think some music in the transitions and more time to really build out these characters and this world would make this one even better, and I really hope it has a full run after the festival!
My overall impression
THE VERTICAL was SUCH a funny and poignant show, with great cast and writing. The show is genuinely hilarious and pokes fun at itself and the industry all at once. It takes a really clever writer to nail that, and this show lands in exactly the sweet spot between funny and serious. This is a biting satirical comedy that you will NOT want to miss!!
