Everything I’ve heard from friends working in the verticals industry is absolute trash. But, this show is a theatrical treasure for accurately reflecting the toxicity in a playful but honest way. It was well written and very funny!!
A few lines in the apple box moments will really stick with me in my memory as hard truths we’re all thinking about the film industry. It’s really really sad that many creatives feel still stuck as ‘minor cogs in the wheel’ repeating cycles of racist and sexist bullshit in 2026 just because there is money in verticals :(
What I didn't like
The drama in the last scene was great to see fleshed out, and was a great way to reveal what each character would do in that morally dark grey situation. But, it felt a little bit out of nowhere. LIGHTSPOILERS – perhaps the behavior that the male characters are asked to do in the moment could be explained as something that happened in the original Chinese version, but that the AI didn’t put into the English script, as opposed to it being a human last-second change that is immediately fixated upon?
My overall impression
I loved this show! Having such a big cast helped make the representation of a shoot feel pretty realistic. Nice props work, well written, well directed, and well performed.
