What I liked

The characters felt so distinct and were performed with such a depth of understanding. It would be easy to villainize some characters as Soviet dog murderers, but Emilie portrayed their struggle with grace and compassion.

What I didn't like

There were insane historical references that I was made aware of after the fact by the performer, such as sound clips from the actual event. I think such amazing attention to detail could be highlighted somehow- perhaps in the program? Stunning!

My overall impression

Puppydog was as funny as it was heartbreaking. It was a well-researched historical deep dive into the fate of an unlikely hero that more of us should be aware of, and have compassion for.
