I enjoyed the multi-generational connections between Grandma – Mom – Granddaughter – and how each generation affects the other two. I also enjoyed the “Jewish Humor” – being a Jewish woman with a similar Grandma and Mom – I KNOW how truthful and real these people were/are. The phone messages from Grandma – oh! Most of us can only wish we had such loving support in our lives.
What I didn't like
This is not necessarily a “what could be improved” or more of a conversation. As much as I enjoyed this performance, it felt more like a TEDTALK than a theatrical performance. Dara is definitely herself and her experiences are relatable to all who continue to go through the stages of grief — over and over and over again. Dara is an energetic and affable presence who frequently laughs at her own jokes and content as we join her on the journey of saying goodbye to those we love.
My overall impression
Dara is a captivating presence in front of an audience and delivers her story with warmth, affection, and personal connection with the audience. She makes us feel like a good friend in whom she is confiding, inviting us to ‘give her a hug’ at the end – which I could not resist doing!
