Loved the material, the phone messages, the amazing jumper, and the performance!
What I didn't like
This could really just be my preference, but I think I would have felt more satisfied in the end if there had been a bit more ritual surrounding loss. I’m not saying that you need to say the mourners kaddish and then cover us in flowers, but maybe I am saying that?
I don’t know think about it – death will always carry unspeakable lessons and there is a power in honoring loss with unspoken action or invoking ancient words/rites that have carried our ancestors through similar situations. Ultimately you are holding space for all of our loss in your performance and I wish there had been a moment to place my own grief into that space.
But this is a tiny little detail and maybe has no place in your show, it’s just a thought! Great work!
My overall impression
Homecoming is really something special. Dara brings to light complicated feelings about loss in ways that are funny yet meaningful. We will all face some loss in our lives and Homecoming is such a wonderful model for how we should collectively face grief.
