Joshua Chamberlain’s script and directing are stellar. This is the first work I’ve seen by him, but he’s certainly a name I’ll remember. The entire cast is also excellent, but lead actors Leif Gantvoort as Stan Lee and Bryan McKinley as Jack Kirby not only resemble their real life counterparts, but bring real understanding and humanity to their roles, despite their larger than life personas.
What I didn't like
There wasn’t much that didn’t work for me here, but I will say that the quieter moments were sometimes hard to hear over the theater’s A/C. Something perhaps the actors could refine over future performances.
My overall impression
Marvel fans familiar with the publisher’s history know that the people behind the scenes are every bit as fascinating and colorful as the characters they’ve brought to life. “The Men Who Drew The Universe” brings these pioneers of creativity to the stage in all their flawed glory and does so in gripping, assured fashion. An absolute must see for comic book fans or anyone who loves a good story of the struggles that come with unexpected success.
