What I liked

The technical elements were outstanding especially for a fringe show. Even with the simplicity of the set the sound and lighting design did great at building the atmosphere of a spaceship. And even when the actors were miming it felt completely believable.

Speaking of the actors, both did an outstanding job! I have to shout out Mina especially. I was sitting in the front row and could see that she was shaking her hand from the “hibernation sickness” (or whatever you call it in this galaxy) almost the whole time. Very impressive!

My overall impression

As a fan of space and science fiction, I was thrilled. But as a writer? I was in awe!

Like all great Sci-fi it uses the fantastical elements of a far off future or galaxy far far away to tell a very human story about people here and now. In this case it’s a masterful examination of a failed relationship and the mistakes of the past with the mystery and intrigue of a first contact with aliens in deep space.

The highest compliment I can give is that felt like it could easily have been an episode of Star Trek (especially the 90s shows). Get Nicole in the writers room for Strange New Worlds!
