Wild, inventive, and completely committed to its own universe The Smokeout is bold, chaotic, funny, and genuinely different. It is especially suited to audiences who enjoy battle rap, character comedy, improv, professional wrestling, interactive theater, and unconventional late-night performances. The strongest aspect of the show is that it does not feel like a safe or generic festival production. It takes a specific idea and pushes it as far as possible. The audience participation, fictional-icon tournament, live beats, and unpredictable performances made the experience memorable. Character rap battles featuring characters from other Fringe shows in a SUPER fun atmosphere. Going to The Smokeout feels like going to the best house party EVER: there was a taco stand outside, and everyone got a free taco with their ticket. Then you walk in and you're greeted by the friendliest Front of House person (hi Ashley!). The programming was really smart: in between battles they had performances by hosts Zheryk and Wes, who are both SO talented and play off of each other beautifully. Plus the music is GREAT: I would see any show produced by this group just for the quality of music before the rap battles even began. And the rap battles were incredible! This show is so much fun! I loved the all the funny characters in the rap battles and can't wait to come to the rest of the shows to see who wins the whole thing! But my favorite part of the show was the variety acts. This is my second time seeing the show and all of the music performances and stand up sets have been incredible. ... full review
